Hello! My name is Skyla Jahanfar!
I am currently a student at CSN with sophomore standing, and I will be graduating in two semesters with an Associate of Applied Science in Business Management.
At the moment, I am on a semester break from my job at the CSN Help Desk, and I couldn't be more grateful for this opportunity to focus more on my classes and rekindle my hobbies, such as art, reading, and knitting!
Art has always been a significant part of my life, but so has technology. Over the years, my love for both has grown immensely, leading me to become an official digital artist. I currently take art commissions, bringing people's ideas to life with my talent and an iPad. Beyond art, I am also a dedicated gamer. I enjoy playing various types of video games, especially rhythm games and first-person shooters. My current favorite games are OSU, Valorant, and Marvel Rivals.
Another passion of mine is dance, specifically Color Guard. I was involved in Color Guard from 7th grade through my senior year of high school. Initially, I was part of the Lake Travis High School team in Austin, Texas. However, in 2020, my mom and I decided to move to Las Vegas, where I became the captain of the Palo Verde High School Color Guard team! One of my small dreams is to be part of a professional Color Guard team for WGI.
My first impression of IS101 was quite interesting. I applied for classes late in the Spring 2025 semester and originally hoped to take an online course. However, all online classes were full, so I had to enroll in an in-person class. While I was initially concerned about the commute, my first class with Professor Albert Wu showed me that attending in person might actually be more beneficial for my learning style.
In Discussion 2, I wrote about how learning email organization rules has helped me stay more organized. Previously, all my emails were cluttered in my inbox, making it difficult to find important messages, and I would often miss crucial emails. Creating rules and organizing my emails into different folders has made managing my inbox much easier. Now, I feel much more confident that I won't miss any important email!
Wonderful that your employer, CSN Help Desk, helps you out by giving your a break for you to focus more on your classes ^_^
ReplyDeleteGlad you decided to stay in my in-person IS101-3205 class instead of finding an online section of IS101 after our first class session of the Spring 2025 semester.
Hmm... You were suppose to include what you chose from LabSim in your post above but you chose to share one of the things you did in Discussion 1. No worries Skyla, as LabSim didn't do justice to email Inbox rules, I'm glad you chose it to elaborate in your blog post :-)
Digital artist, dedicated gamer, and a passion for dance, very cool!
Hello Skyla! Congrats on only having two semesters to go! I can't wait until I can say the same. The employees at the CSN Help Desk are so helpful. I know I called numerous times when starting my journey with college because I wanted to make sure I was doing the correct steps on enrolling and following the roadmap. Man, I wish I could enjoy gaming like I used to. I own a built PC, and I have all the current consoles, but they are all used for streaming services and not playing. If I do get a chance to play, I don't have the same focus as before to play longer than two hours due to my children, wife, or the house needing my attention every 15-30 minutes. I recently bought a Meta Quest 3s because my cousin insisted it was the new wave, which in all honesty it is very fun to use and since I bought it, I've only played a handful of times but after one hour of playing, my eyes start to tear up and I don't touch it again till the weekend. The current game I'm playing is Dungeons of Eternity, and it's a blast till my eyes can't take it. Yes! Managing emails also helped me out because my emails were very cluttered and unorganized. Now, I look at my school emails with ease. Plus, I took what I learned and started to organize my personal emails for a less cluttered inbox. I wish you luck in your journey. You will have a very bright future ahead of you!
ReplyDeleteHi Skyla! It's very cool to see that I have some things in common with multiple people in our class! I also grew up with a passion for dance. I started very young when I was in elementary school, and danced all through middle and high school. I was in Color Guard in high school as well. Before IS101, I also dealt with having an unorganized email inbox. The email inbox rules has saved so much time with having to go through emails individually. It's refreshing to be able to find emails that I am looking for in the folders that I need them to be in.

ReplyDeleteLas Vegas is a good city to put a business degree to work. Creating things digitally has always fascinated me, it is impressive to know you have made a career out of it. I also like to play first person shooters. My games of choice are Battlefield and COD, but I have been playing Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League quite a bit lately. Email rules certainly do help declutter the inbox and have been helpful.
ReplyDeleteHi Skyla! That’s awesome that you’re a digital artist, especially with your passion for art and technology. I also enjoy playing Marvel Rivals whenever I have free time. I mostly play as Luna Snow since I’m not that great at the game and prefer supporting the team with healing. Before taking this course, I had never heard of or created an inbox rule. It’s such a helpful tool for organizing emails, and I’m glad to have learned it. I know I’ll use it for years to come!
ReplyDeleteHi Skyla! It’s great to hear about your experience at CSN, and it’s awesome that you’re balancing your studies with your passion for art. I also enjoy gaming, so I can totally relate to your love for rhythm games and shooters. It’s great to hear how IS101 has already been beneficial for you! It’s funny how sometimes the unexpected changes, like having to switch to an in-person class, can end up being a positive experience. I totally relate to the email organization struggle too. Setting up rules to keep everything sorted has been a game-changer for me as well. It’s awesome that you’re feeling more confident in managing your inbox now!
ReplyDeleteKeep up the great work! Best of luck as you finish up your degree and continue pursuing your creative passions! =D
Hello Skyla, congratulations in advance on completing your associate’s degree. I thought the same thing on the initial day of the class about it being beneficial to take it in-person. I learn better with interactions, and it would've been harder for me to navigate the class online with the workload.
ReplyDeleteHey Skyla!
ReplyDeleteI must say, your blog is so incredibly cute, I adore it so much!
Color guard sounds interesting! I hope you get to become captain of the Winter Guard International!
I must say the email inbox rules also helped me out so much! I was able to later put more rules for my other email accounts and it helped me organize the important emails and the ones that are not as important.
WEBFISHING PFP OMG. But back to the focus, It's crazy how close you are to completing your associates. I wish you luck!
ReplyDeleteYESSS I love webfishing so much!!
DeleteHi Skyla,
ReplyDeleteI too wanted to take this class online, but after looking at the reviews of the other professors, I realized I’m probably better off taking this class. The only game I play is the Hogwarts Legacy game on my little sister’s PS5. I can’t spend more than 30 minutes playing because my eyes start drying up. Reading about your hobbies and the courses you are taking, you seem to be pretty busy, so it’s impressive how you are usually one of the first ones to finish an assignment.
Hi Skyla,
ReplyDeleteYou are very talented! You draw and you danced in the Color Guard. I wish I could draw, but that talent was given to my older brother. Like you he has a passion for drawing, he even created 3 drawings for my twin boys nursery of Winnie the Pooh - since he is my favorite character. I have a respect for art, not everyone can think of something and transfer that idea on to paper.
I wish you success in your future! :)
Hey Skyla,
ReplyDeleteIt’s awesome to hear about your journey at CSN and your diverse passions! Taking a break from work to focus on school and hobbies sounds like a great opportunity to recharge. Your love for both art and technology makes digital artistry a perfect fit, and it’s impressive that you’re taking commissions! Also, being a dedicated gamer with favorites like OSU and Valorant must make for some exciting downtime.
Your experience with Color Guard is inspiring—becoming captain after moving to a new school is a huge accomplishment! WGI sounds like a fantastic goal, and with your dedication, I’m sure you’ll make it happen.
IS101 seems to be turning out better than expected, and it’s great that in-person learning is working for you. Organizing emails is such a simple yet powerful skill, and it’s great to hear it’s already making a difference for you! Wishing you the best in your studies and all your creative pursuits!
Hey Skyla,
ReplyDeleteI totally admire that you're able to dance because I am only good at it when I got a few drinks in me! Also, totally jealous that you can draw because my husband can also draw and paint and my skills don't go past a stick figure. I think it's really cool you can make a living doing something you actually enjoy to do, I am also working to get to that point in my life as well so it is very inspiring!
Hello Skyla,
ReplyDeleteI admire your love for art since it is a skill that I severely lack. Very cool to meet someone who is passionate about the color guard. Especially someone who I wasn't aware was the captain of my own high school's color guard.
Hi Skyla, art definitely goes along with technology especially nowadays. Although many individuals still use pen and paper to draw, now you can use technology such as an Ipad to create art. I was also in a similar situation, applying for my classes too late. I initially wanted to have all online classes this semester so I could balance my school life and work life, but as the semester progressed, its been going great for me. I admire you for making art, and even making art for other people. it must bring you joy to see people's reactions when they see what you made for them. Learning to organize emails was one thing I wanted to do because I have so much emails. Its great to see that you are using it to stay organized.
ReplyDeleteHello Skyla, cool last name! I’m also a sophomore at the moment and I’m going for Engineering Technology. It’s always nice to get a break from work, also vacationing at least once or twice from reality is always nice because it's well deserved. Being in class definitely makes a difference, even if it’s just two-three hours a week. It’s my first hybrid class and since most of the work is done online that’s why I chose it. I can work on it when I have free time at work, I’m at my desk often when I’m not doing physical work.
ReplyDeleteHi Skyla,
ReplyDeleteI really like your name. I enjoyed your art. And hope the best for you and your career. Keep up the amazing work!
Hi Skyla! I think gaming is super cool and I play video games too! My favorites are things like Kingdom Hearts, Phasmophobia and a lot of Nintendo games. I think my favorite from Nintendo is for sure Animal Crossing, it is so peaceful and relaxing! I also am an artist, I only recently got into doing digital art, do you have any tips?
